Have you ever felt like life is busy but something’s missing? You’re not alone.
A lot of people are looking for more: meaning, connection, purpose. Not just another place to go, but a place to belong.
That’s been at the heart of Valley Church from the very beginning. Back in 1990, we started with just a handful of people meeting in a school gym, believing God could do something bigger than what they could see at the time. In 1997, we moved into our current building at Mills Civic and Fuller. And in 2013, we expanded across the street with the Valley Community Center, providing a new and beautiful way to reach out to our neighbors.
Over the years, our heart and mission have stayed the same:
- Helping relationships thrive
- Loving our community
- Mobilizing people to live out their God-given purpose
The Make Room Initiative is simply the next step in that story. By expanding our spaces, we’re taking a step of faith to prepare for what God is doing, both in our church and across West Des Moines.
Introducing: The Sky Venue
The Sky Venue is a brand-new space inside the Valley Community Center, created to feel open, welcoming, and filled with light.
Our design was intentional. With vaulted ceilings, skylights, and floor-to-ceiling windows, the space itself reflects what we want people to experience when they enter our church community: warmth, fellowship, and a sense that something meaningful is happening here.
Try Sky: Three New Opportunities to Join Us
With the opening of The Sky Venue, we’ve added three new Sunday services, featuring live preaching and worship in a beautiful setting:
- 8:15 am (Liturgy)
Acoustic, ordered worship with historic liturgy and weekly communion. This service typically includes live preaching and a reflective flow of Scripture, prayer, and song. - 9:30 & 11 am (Modern Acoustic)
Reflective, contemporary worship. This service typically includes live preaching in a welcoming space, filled with natural light.
Bring your family, invite a friend, or come and see our new space on your own. There’s no pressure, just an open door.
A Space for Life’s Biggest Moments
The Sky Venue isn’t just for Sundays. It’s also one of the most unique event venues in West Des Moines, perfect for:
- Conferences
- Celebrations
- Milestone moments
With over 6,000 square feet and capacity for 450+ guests, it’s available to host experiences at every scale. So whether you’re joining us for worship on Sundays or celebrating something personal, this space is ready to serve you.
A Place for Your Everyday Life
The Sky Venue is just one piece of the Valley Community Center. Since opening, it’s become a hub for connection across West Des Moines: where relationships form, families gather, and people find community in unexpected ways.
And the best part? You don’t have to attend Valley Church to walk through the doors!
All week long, you’ll find free events for the entire family, including:
- Open gym time
- Basketball, soccer, and pickleball play
- Strength and cardio classes
- Tot Town playtime
- Coffee meetups
- Tabletop games
- Movie showings
- And much more
Whether you’re meeting a friend for coffee, attending a free community event like Love You Des Moines Days, looking for a place for your kids to play, or hosting a meeting or celebration, this was a place built for you.
What “Make Room” Really Means
The heart of our “Make Room” campaign is, simply, people. It’s about creating space for…
- God to move
Inviting God to stretch us and shape us—showing us how we can make room for him to move in our midst. - To be family
Doing what families do: have fun, support each other, share meals, open up about hard things, and celebrate together. - To grow the family
So more people, of all ages and backgrounds, can experience purpose and belonging in spaces that shout, “Come join us! We’ve been waiting for you!”
There are people all around us who are searching, people who are closer to God than we may think. But they need a place to start, an invitation, someone to say, “Come sit with me.”
Come and See for Yourself
At Valley, we’re people just like you. We’ve had questions, struggles, and moments where we needed something more—and we’ve found that in Jesus.
We want to help you take your next step, wherever you’re starting from.
See you this Sunday at The Sky Venue at 8:15, 9:30 or 11 am!
We’ll be saving you a seat.
